Shop Closing

Good Morning!

We are in the final stages of preparing to move our family way up north. As a result, we will be closing our Harvest Moon Hollow Etsy Shop until we are settled in our new home. Harvest Moon Hollow will be open through Friday evening (June 3rd) for any last minute purchases or special orders. I cannot say as to what our exact reopening will be, so if you've been holding off on a mitten quilt order or other little goody, now would be the time!

Have a lovely day!

Warning: This is NOT Good For You

Like I said, this recipe is not good for you, but it's a nice splurge every once and awhile.

We had this last night for dinner and we loved it so much, I thought I would share it with you.

Chicken Fried Chicken

3 lbs chicken tenderloins
2 large eggs
1 1/2 C milk plus 2 C for gravy
3 C flour plus 1/3 C for gravy
2 tsp seasoned salt
3/4 tsp paprika
1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
1 1/2 tsp black pepper
1/2 C vegetable oil

Tenderize chicken tenderloins. Begin with an assembly line of dishes for the chicken, milk-egg mixture, and flour mixture. Beat 2 eggs with 1 c milk. Mix flour with seasonings. Lightly season chicken with salt and pepper, then dip into egg-milk mixture. Turn to coat. Place the chicken on the plate of seasoned flour. Turn over to coat throughly. Place the chicken back in the milk-egg mixture, turning to coat. Dredge in flour one more time. Repeat with remaining chicken pieces.

Heat oil in large skillet over medium-high heat. Fry three pieces of chicken at a time. Cook, turning, until cooked through. Remove to paper towel covered plate and keep warm.

After frying all of the chicken, pour off the grease into a heat proof bowl. Do not clean out pan. Add 1/4 C grease back to the pan and heat. Sprinkle 1/3 C flour evenly over the grease. Using a whisk, create a roux. When the roux is golden brown add 2 C milk while constantly whisking. Whisk to combine and let the gravy come to a slow boil. Add splashes of milk if the gravy becomes too thick. Be sure to season with salt and pepper before serving.

Plate the chicken with mashed potatoes and drizzle with gravy.

Enjoy!

A Recipe

My oven has been out of commission for about 2 1/2 weeks now. We are awaiting the replacement part that should arrive tomorrow - thank goodness. Meanwhile, we have been living out of our crock pot. I love my crock pot, but after 2 1/2 weeks, I'm ready to love my oven again. Nevertheless, we had a delicious dinner on Friday that I thought I would share. It is so simple, that I'm surprised how good it tastes.

We came home to this dinner awaiting us on Friday after spending the afternoon at the beach. Yep - it's beach weather in our neck of the woods. However, it would be equally good on a chilly, rainy afternoon.

Chicken Tortilla Soup

4 chicken breast halves (I just threw mine in frozen - LOVE the crock pot)
2 15 oz. black bean, undrained
2 15 oz. Mexican stewed tomatoes or Rotel tomatoes (we used Rotel)
1 C salsa (heat to be determined by your taste buds)
4 oz. can chopped green chillies
14 1/2 oz. can tomato sauce

tortilla chips
grated cheese

Combine all ingredients except chips and cheese in large slow cooker. Cover. Cook on low for 8 hours. Just before serving, remove chicken breasts and slice into bite sized pieces (I just left the chicken in and shred it with two forks). Stir into soup. To serve, put a handful of chips in each individual soup bowl. Ladle soup over chips (we prefer the chips on top of the soup). Top with cheese.

I might add that a small dollop of sour cream stirred in is divine as well!

Enjoy!

Spring Special Order

A favorite client, whom I did a mitten quilt for, requested that I design a spring quilt to fill her mitten quilt space. She asked for a spring tree with flowers representing her children, a pair of birds for her husband and herself, and a birdhouse with their initial. The above was the result - with a hand towel to match, of course. I hope the birds are singing in your little neck of the woods today!

A Family Announcement

Things here at the Hollow have almost ground to a complete halt.
Let me explain why...

After 6 very long years we are beyond pleased to announce that we are expecting twins.

Until today they were known as Baby A and Baby B.

My husband and I were surprised to learn today that....

Baby B is a GIRL and

Baby A is a BOY!

Hopefully y'all won't hold it against me as to why things in the Hollow have been a little quiet... I'm just now starting to see the light at the end of the tunnel of that lovely little thing known as morning sickness. :)

Whimsy

I picked up these fresh fabrics a couple of weeks ago. They are from Moda's delightful Whimsy line. I am going to be making a very special quilt for my daughter's 8th birthday from them. I also have an idea or two up my sleeve that may end up in the Shop as well.

Have a Whimsical Day!

Happy Valentine's Day!

Each Valentine's Day our family has a chocolate dipping party. The kiddos were all a buzz about it on our way to school this morning. So much fun!

I hope your Valentine's Day is just as sweet!

A ladder...

I love quilts.

I think they add a touch of warmth and coziness to any home. One of my favorite ways to display my collection of quilts is on this ladder. It's a simple, rustic ladder that I purchased just a few days before I was married. Without taking up a great deal of space, it provides a wonderful place to hang various quilts throughout the year.

What about you?
How do you display your cozy quilts?

Let's try that again...

Well, my friends, I spoke too soon in my last post. That very day I developed complications that landed me back in bed. My doctor assures me that we should be on the upswing now - so hopefully I can get back on the ball with Harvest Moon Hollow. Thank you for not giving up on me!

Tomorrow is the final day of our Valentine Sale!

Quilts and Pillows will be sent via Priority Mail so that you will still have plenty of time to have them adorning your home.

I'm back!

After two fairly intensive weeks, I am finally starting to feel somewhat back to normal. It will still be a little while before we know if the surgeries were successful, but for today I am just grateful to have gotten out of bed and back on the treadmill!

To celebrate the little joys of life, such as feeling well enough to do something besides laying in bed mindlessly watching House Hunters (don't get me wrong, I love House Hunters and all, but two weeks of it is a little much), Harvest Moon Hollow is having a sale!

Everything in the shop, excluding special orders, is 20% off.
Simply enter the discount code HEART upon checkout.
Happy Shopping!

Family Valentine Pockets

I am so excited about these!

When we were small, my mother made Valentine Pockets for us! We hung these Valentine Pockets in the beginning of February and throughout the month we would secretly write love notes to each other and tuck them away in the individual pockets. If Mom ever noticed us being especially kind she would write the kindness on a little note and tuck it away in our Valentine Pocket. By February 14th our pockets were bulging!

Just before we had our special Valentine dinner, Mom would pass out our pockets and we would read all the love notes we had received. We always had lovely little family Valentine's Days.

I am now offering these custom Valentine Pockets in the Shop!

Whether you would like one pocket for the whole family, or a pocket for each member - I'm sure you'll enjoy starting your very own Valentine Pocket tradition.

Slowing Down

Things in the Hollow will be slowing down over the next two weeks as I undergo two surgical procedures. My sweet sister is flying in on Sunday to help while I am feeling less then chipper. I honestly don't know how I will be feeling, so I am still hoping to keep up with the blog the best I can, but if I am absent for a week or two, please don't think that I've given up.

See you soon!

P.S. More Valentine Treats will be arriving soon...

Happy New Year!

Every year, after the Christmas decorations are carefully packed away, I am always surprised by how pale my house looks. With all the vibrancy of the rich oranges of fall and the shimmery reds and greens of Christmas tucked neatly away in boxes, I am always left feeling a little blah in the color department.

I was experiencing these familiar feelings this week when I pulled out my table runner that I had quilted this summer.

A smile instantly spread across my face. I had forgotten, with it being in storage the last several months, how very much I loved the cheery colors. My table was no longer feeling so blah, though I wish I could say the same for the rest of my tiny house!

This particular line of fabric, Essence by Sandy Gervais, is difficult to find these days. After much online hunting, I was able to find just enough fabric to make one more table runner. If you are needing a dash of color to bring a smile to your January table, no fear! I am hoping to have this table runner completed soon.

And if you are REALLY looking for a splash of color, be sure to check out our first run of Valentine goodies this very Monday!

Happy New Year!
